Bug books - and art!
We had a great time in the Bug out with Bug Art camp last week! Incoming kindergartners enjoyed a lot of great books about bugs, but were especially wild about Honey-- Honey-- Lion! : A Story from Africa by Jan Brett, Beetle McGrady Eats Bugs! by Megan McDonald, Hey, Little Ant by Phillip Hoose and Bug Butts by Dawn Cusick. We also did some fun art projects - check them out!

Summer camp at OWS: 5 weeks of learning, exploring, friends and fun!
Why not sign up for a week (or five...!) of summer camp at OWS? We offer a flexible schedule, so you can take just a morning camp, just an afternoon camp, or a full day where you choose a combination of activities that work for you! Morning and afternoon childcare is also available.
Take a look at the online catalog to see what's on offer for students entering kindergarten through 7th grade. Non-OWS families are very welcome, so please pass this information on to your friends and family!
I will be teaching three weeks of camps for students entering kindergarten and am very excited about planning a range of interesting and engaging activities. Science and art are two of my personal favorite subject and there is nothing like the enthusiasm that kids this age bring to everything they do.

Week 1: July 8-12 - Bug Out with Bug Art
Did you know that about 80% of the
world’s animal species are insects? Explore the magic and mystery of these
amazing creatures through art! Create colorful caterpillar collages, handmade
insect treasures, and more!
Week 2: July 15-19 - Moon Mission
Learn what it
takes to become an astronaut! Hear stories about the moon from cultures around
the world! Find out about the history of space exploration! There will be lots
of art projects, experiments and drama games as your child takes a trip to the
moon!
Week 3: July 22-26 - Creation Station
Do you love getting creative with your
hands? Are you filled with pride when you create an original work of art? Here
is the chance for you to develop your skills as an artist using different
materials each day!

fun summer camp options? I will be teaching three fun camps and would love to have
your child attend.
Each one runs for half the day, so you can mix and match, exploring a variety of fun, brain-stretching topics!
Week 4 - July 23-27 (Entering 1st and 2nd Grade)
What were these ancient creatures like? Dig for fossil bones, act out dinosaur stories, and make dino-projects to take home. Compare dinosaurs to modern-day animals and try to unlock some prehistoric mysteries!
Moon Mission
Week 5 - July 30-August 3 (Entering Kindergarten)
Learn what it takes to become an astronaut! Be part of a space agency team to role play a mission to the moon. There will be lots of art projects, experiment and drama games as your camper takes a trip to the moon!
Crime Science
Week 6 - August 6- 10 (Entering 3rd and 4th Grade)
Ever wonder how detectives and scientists work together to solve crimes? Campers work together as detectives to identify clues, crack secret codes, and debate their conclusions!

Looking for something fun to do this summer? I'm teaching three summer camps at Open Window School and would love to see you there!
Please note: classes that do not reach minimum enrollment will be cancelled by the end of May, so don't hesitate if you want to sign up!
There is some flexibility in the ages admitted, so if you'd like to participate and are slightly older or younger than the age range given, call us anyway. Please invite friends and relatives who aren't OWS students - everyone is welcome!
Week 1, July 6-9: Dragons Galore!
For students entering 2nd & 3rd grades
Love dragons? If so, this is the class for you. We will read dragon stories, learn dragon lore, explore the history of dragon beliefs around the world, and create dragon-inspired art!
Week 2, July 12-16: Eat Your Way Around the World
For students entering 2nd & 3rd grades
Come on a trip around the world as we create and enjoy delicious dishes from every corner of the globe, explore the cultures that created them, and learn fun facts about the history of the foods we eat.
Week 3, July 19-23: Myths - Makin' 'em and Breakin' 'em (with Mr. Goodman)
For students entering 4th-8th grades
Spend half of the day with Ms. Simeon, who will guide you through a virtual tour of Mount Olympus, from Athena to Zeus. You’ll get to know the Greek gods, write myths of your own, and learn about the amazing civilization of the Ancient Greeks. During the other half of your day, work with Mr. Goodman busting and breaking down some less classic, but equally familiar myths. We’ll use our engineering minds and the scientific method to separate fact from fiction.
